I’m looking for the good stuff—the expression you didn’t plan, the kid doing exactly what you told them not to do, the celly after the goal, the personality behind the business.
I’ll give you enough direction that you never have to wonder what to do. Then I’ll watch for what happens in between.

Hi, I’m Ashley. I notice things.
The split-second expression. The weird little thing your kid does that you never want to forget. The look on a player’s face when they forget there’s a camera there. The hands that have built a business from the ground up.
I’ve been photographing people for more than a decade, and somewhere along the way I figured out how I work:
Moment first. Composition second. Light third.
Because if the moment is good enough, I’m taking the damn picture.

A pretty picture is nice—but a photo that tells a story? That’s the one you remember.
A photograph can be beautiful. But if it doesn’t make you feel something, I’m not that interested.
I’m looking for the stuff underneath the obvious—the personality, the connection, the split-second expression, the chaos, the movement. The things that make a person, a family, a team or a business unmistakably themselves.
Because years from now, I don’t just want you to remember what it looked like. I want you to remember what it felt like.
I’m not interested in making everything look perfect. I’m interested in making it feel like you.
Sometimes that means giving you direction. Sometimes it means getting out of the way. Most of the time, it’s a little bit of both. I set the stage, then watch for the moment when something real happens.
Families. Hockey. Brands. Different worlds, same approach: find the moment and make a damn good photograph out of it.

What to Expect

You’re living it. I’m watching it. The glance, the reaction, the tiny thing happening at the edge of the frame—those are usually the photographs I get most excited about.

I’m not going to leave you standing there wondering what to do. I’ll move you, prompt you, fix what needs fixing and create the conditions for something good to happen. Then, when it does, I get out of the way.

Kids can be wild. Hair can move. Jerseys can get messy. People can laugh too hard. Your business doesn’t have to look like everybody else’s. The interesting stuff usually happens when things get a little imperfect.
This is much more interesting to me.
